There is hope, now. While initial few months of 2022 still has the uncertainty around new Covid-19 wave, later ones have paved a way to reopening of many aspects of our lives. The biggest change we will see after two years is of schools reopening nationwide.
Prolonged school closures have had severe impact on physical and psychosocial well-being of children; most affected being the children from vulnerable sections of the society. Our focus now is to re-introduce structured ‘sports’ and ‘physical education’ programmes in schools as both are directly linked to improved developmental outcomes in children – at physical, social-emotional and cognitive levels. Global research and our Sportz Village Impact assessment surveys have time and again proved the positive impact ‘playing’ has on children in terms of better health, gender equity and education standards.
With our ecosystem of corporate donors, schools, trainers, parents and children – we look forward to transforming lives through our ‘Sport for Change’ programs across the country. Here’s presenting some positives notes from the past quarter:

1516 students engaged in offline/online Physical and Health education programs show 15-25% improvement in fitness levels and life-skills learning
Along with our partner KOOH Sports Foundation, we successfully implemented online programs covering Fitness and Health Education programs and offline ‘Race Around India’ program for students from 5 schools in Haryana and Bihar under the Bata’s CSR initiative. A total of 1516 students from Grades 3 to 9 were engaged and impacted through this initiative. A baseline fitness assessment was conducted before the implementation of the program to measure the existing fitness levels of students in terms of aerobic capacity, anaerobic capacity, upper and lower body strength, abdominal strength, and flexibility.
A post-program (endline) assessment showed significant progress in health and fitness levels marking a 15% to 25% difference in performance levels at different centers. Students also displayed attributes showing learning of key life skills like leadership, self-motivation, team spirit, communication skills, and teamwork. Further remedial measures were also recommended for students showing less or insignificant progress.

Girls choose individual or smaller team sports because their friends aren’t playing; feel under confident in mixed teams - A Sportz Village study for ‘Girls in Sports’
|
|
|
Sportz Village recently concluded a unique and detailed study for a leading consumer brand to identify and validate the social barriers constraining girls from pursuing sports. The study used data and inputs collected through a survey conducted among 800+ coaches across Sportz Village network of schools and colleges, Sportz Village 11th Annual Health Survey and direct interviews of an expert panel. This study would be used to prioritize the key issues for girls in sports and advocating the cause of sports for women by enabling more ‘girls only’ grassroot sport development and sports excellence platforms. This is a great example of how brands or CSR bodies can use data-led insights to further establish their positioning and advocacy – by removing social barriers and gender stereotypes in sports.
