Sport For Change – Project Udaan

Creating Pathways Through Sport

Sport For Change – Project Udaan is a programme positively impacting over 2,800 children and youth through physical education and sports development across 26 educational institutions in Kota and Baran, Rajasthan.

An Overview

Chambal Fertilisers and Chemicals Limited and its CSR arm, K. K. Birla Memorial Society, are deeply committed to sustainability, responsible business practices and the holistic development of society.

The organisation believes in balancing economic prosperity, social development and environmental integrity. It also holds a strong belief in the power of sport and sports culture to uplift young people and communities.

Through its collaboration with Sportz Village Foundation, CFCL supports Project Udaan, one of India’s Sport For Change initiatives. The project focuses on promoting sports and physical education among children in rural India while creating pathways for sporting excellence.

Objectives of Project Udaan

Promote Healthy and Active Lifestyles

To foster the development of a healthy and active lifestyle among children in rural areas through access to quality sports and physical education.

Nurture Sporting Talent

To identify and support talented student-athletes by creating opportunities to showcase their potential at grassroots and competitive levels.

Focus Region

Project Udaan is implemented in the Kota and Baran districts of Rajasthan.

Program Components

1. Sports Education

The project introduced EduSports, a comprehensive sports education curriculum by Sportz Village Foundation, across CFCL-supported schools and educational institutions.

The curriculum forms the foundation of the initiative by providing children with fundamental knowledge of different sports and physical activities.

The Sports and Physical Education Programme covered:

  • 20 schools, reaching 1,557 children
  • 6 ITI and Government Polytechnic institutions, reaching 1,324 children
  • 26 institutions in total, reaching 2,881 children

EduSports is a structured sports and physical education programme designed to integrate well into the core education process of schools.

2. PathwayZ Sports Excellence

Project Udaan established Sports Development Centres that serve as platforms to nurture and develop young sporting talent.

The programme supports nationally recognised sports, Paralympic disciplines and Olympic disciplines, helping talented student-athletes access guidance and training through their sporting journey.

The Sports Development Centres included:

  • Palaitha: Athletics and Kho-Kho — 24 students
  • Sarola: Kabaddi and Athletics — 39 students
  • Digod: Kabaddi, Athletics and Kho-Kho — 46 students
  • Sultanpur: Kabaddi, Athletics and Kho-Kho — 29 students
  • Bamori: Volleyball, Athletics and Kho-Kho — 35 students

Each centre conducted 21 sessions under the PathwayZ Sports Excellence Programme.

3. Special Initiatives

Project Udaan organised inter-school and intra-school sports events in Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Athletics and Volleyball. These events gave children a platform to showcase their talent while developing essential life and leadership skills.

Ten student-athletes between the ages of 12 and 18 from Project Udaan’s Sports Development Centres in Kota were selected for Kabaddi trials at the Sports Authority of India in Jaipur.

The programme also conducted a special marathon for partner schools, educational institutions and local communities in Gadepan, Kota.

Impact and Outreach

Project Udaan impacts over 2,800 children by providing access to quality sports education and training pathways towards sporting excellence.

Holistic Development

Children have been exposed to a holistic development model that supports physical health while encouraging teamwork, discipline and self-confidence.

Talent Identification

The Sports Development Centres have enabled the identification and nurturing of talent across different sports disciplines, contributing to a wider pool of young sports talent in India.

Inclusivity

By incorporating Paralympic sports, the initiative promotes inclusivity and provides opportunities for differently-abled children to participate and excel in sports.

Competitive Exposure

Inter-school and intra-school events and competitions have provided children with opportunities to compete at different levels, fostering healthy competition and promoting the spirit of sportsmanship.

Community Engagement

CFCL’s involvement in sports and physical education has strengthened community engagement, as parents, teachers and local communities witness the positive impact of these activities on children’s development.
